Email Spoofing

« Back to Glossary Index

Email spoofing occurs when someone forges the “From” address in an email to make it look like it came from someone else.

Why it matters:

  • Common tactic in phishing attacks.
  • Damages trust in legitimate business communications.
  • Prevented by proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC setup.

Pro tip: Train employees to check message headers when something seems off — the true sender can usually be seen there.
