Zero-Day

« Back to Glossary Index

A zero-day is a vulnerability unknown to the vendor that attackers exploit before a fix is released.

Why it matters:

  • Highly dangerous because no patch exists yet.
  • Hackers often sell zero-day exploits on black markets.

Pro tip: While you can’t directly patch a zero-day, layered security (firewalls, intrusion prevention, monitoring) helps minimize risk.
